A Glimmer of Hope

A long long time ago, the glimmerman lit the gas lights in the streets when it got dark. He lit his lights so people could see, so they could find their way through the darkness.

As we potentially move out of lockdown, we have the opportunity to see life from a different perspective. A glimmer of hope as we await the next step for our country.

The past months have asked so much from us. Now we prepare to go back to work

in whatever new form that might be. The sunny days have eased the pain of lockdown.

The sun still shone. The rivers still flowed. The birds still sang, in fact they sang more.

What positive changes, and I mean real, honest changes do you want when you return

to work?

Some people have already decided that working from home suits them. Others just can’t wait to get back to the office. While some want the balance of the two. Business owners are putting strategies in place to help them hold onto their businesses. It’s time to support local, re-build our country, recycle what we can from the past, make it better and use new energies to sustain us. Our mental health and wellbeing should be regarded as the most cherished possession we have. That is what will fuel us. Values from old can be harnessed and reawakened, sharpened and re-used.

As most of us move closer to online working, what positive changes do you want to make?

Setting goals for yourself is really important. Have you decided yet that the stress you used to experience is not worth it? The endless rushing, the “have to” or “musts”. We have a real opportunity here to open our eyes and start afresh. What can you plan to change? How can you adapt, change and grow.

The way forward is baby steps. Step by step along the way making that difference for ourselves and each other. Together we can do this. Your mental health and wellbeing is key to unlocking your coping mechanisms.

There is a glimmer of hope. A light in the darkness. There are new learnings. New beginnings. New chapters in all of our lives. Starting afresh with a new attitude for life. A zest to learn the lessons of 2020 so we can really see with 2020 vision a new Ireland. An Ireland that is kinder to each other. An Ireland that supports the home market. An Ireland that is grateful to be healthy. An attitude in Ireland that is like the glimmerman, a beacon of light in the darkness.

Let’s stay well and stay safe.

Changing times new learnings

New seeds of thinking

Like a farmer who would prepare his field, we can plant new seeds of thinking and being. We now have a real opportunity to learn and grow.

Business owners are starting to get creative about new ways of doing business. A new kind of leadership is beginning to emerge.

People have begun to say “hello” to one another again. We now really see the value of companionship. “Your health is your wealth” has taken on a whole new meaning. We sense there is a bigger picture here.

We realize how lucky we are, as we see our doctors and nurses, fire brigade, ambulance drivers, carers, chemist workers, cleaners, and supermarket workers, put themselves at risk for us. The parents and guardians who become teachers, thank you each and every one of you.

It’s as if the true human spirit of most people has resurfaced. Kindness is showing it’s face again.

Unknown to you consciously, your nervous system is always scanning the environment to sense danger. Its working in the background. It wants to protect you. It wants to keep you safe. Feeling continually unsafe is dangerous to your wellbeing. Your brain goes into overdrive.

As we face into a further three weeks of lock-down, consider limiting your news intake each day.

Comedy is so important right now. When you laugh you send happy feelings throughout your body. That has to be good for your immune system. And we need to keep our immune system happy and healthy.

My father was a comic genius and he often said to me “we had nothing, so we had to make our own fun”. He was always messing and playing pranks, or telling stories. We need that war like spirit, making fun out of nothing. It’s a survival technique. We have started to act in character at home. We are working on the Russian accent at the moment. My nick-name is Glad-a-mear! It changes your energy when you begin to mimic accents. Rock your house with music and interrupt the negative thinking. Get the good feelings going. Think of how you can help your immune system!

When push comes to shove who is really important in your life? Beyond the money, beyond the job. Who and what is most important? We can learn so many things from this time in history. Beyond the fear, beyond the doubt, beyond the uncertainty. If we are all in this together, let’s organise our thinking in a new way. We can start anew.

Focus on what you can control. When a farmer prepares his field, there is not much to see at first, but then slowly, new shoots begin to grow and get sturdy. We can survive. We can grow. We are a famine nation, it is in our DNA to survive. We will have learned many lessons by the end of this pandemic, and if we continue to honour those lessons and show kindness, take time for each other, and make fun out of nothing, we will have qualified with a distinction in the university of life.

Stay safe and stay well.

Self worth is real worth

Self worth is real worth. The way to transformation is in developing your own self-worth. Stop listening to the critic within you. Stop wanting to be like everybody else. For there is only one you. You are as unique as each individual star in the sky. The turtle when he comes into the world knows instinctively that he must go into the water. He does not wait for others to tell him what to do. He doesn’t doubt his own instinct.

A lifetime spent developing your own self-worth, is a lifetime that well spent. It is your purpose in life. By doing that, you can change the world. By developing that self-worth you start to develop self-love.

There is no power in the universe that is as strong as self-love. And there live your principles. There are your goals. There is your determination. There is your focus. There is your motivation.

By genuinely working on your own self-worth know you are changing the world.

How so? Because those around you notice. They see how you have grown. You inspire others by, simply, being you. That drives humanity to want to do the same.

Some may work on self-worth. Some may work on self- doubt. The results are all too obvious to see.

if you spend your days working on self-worth you will begin to look upon yourself as worthy. You will begin to know and nurture self-love and compassion. Your destiny is in who you are.

Your self-worth is worth working on.

Begin. Start. Tear back the layers of self-doubt and build your self-worth to be solid and strong. Even if it takes forever, know you are worth it.
